So far, I have the one failed model, but realise that the cost of this one failed model is maybe $20. I guess it’s my fault for not noticing the prohibitive prices of replacement resin (US$100 for 500ml), but it does rather make it severely unattractive to do much experimentation. I am not going to beef about being tied to Uniz own-brand resin, but I wonder whether someone from Uniz could comment on whether the cost of resin is ever going to come down, or if replacement resin will always be so expensive as to drain all the fun out of experimentation?
Why not do your experimenting with 3rd party resins? I would recommend the FunToDo brand for this, it performs well on the Slash and is reasonably priced. If you have an OL machine the DRM lock is to be removed in the next software update which will allow 3rd party resins. There is much experimenting to do to understand the optimum procedure for various prints.
I Agree, it would also be nice if Uniz decided to offer the Vat sheets independantly of the Vat, sold in pre-cut form. The high cost of replacing the whole Vat every time the film is worn out, especially with UDP mode, means it’s not only wasteful but expensive! Not to mention the environmental aspect of consumables!
According to a few members in the Facebook group who have measured the wavelength it is within the range of 410-420nm allowing the use of many third party resins.?
That’s actually great news! i purchased a cheap spectroscope to check mine in the udp printer i just got. I was afraid of their advertising “Blue Led” that is was something more in the 450-460nm range. Also with the original slash the company was discontinuing sale of the 405nm module due to shortened life of the lcd panel.
