Is my Slash OL a Lemon?

Hi Everyone,

Since receiving my Slash OL about two weeks ago, I have not been able to produce one successful print, not even a failed print for that matter. Just nothing. Even when it goes through all the motions of printing, it doesn’t print anything, not even a little bit of cured resin at the bottom of the tank. Support seems unable to fix it.

It’s having constant connection problems. The wireless connection is dropped repeatedly and even when it shows that it is connected to the network, the software doesn’t see it. The only way to get a reliable connection is with a direct connection.

I have also been getting random Resin Abnormal error messages where I need to restart the printer several times to get it to accept the resin.

I see a few people on here with similar issues, but am wondering if we got the few lemons of the batch or are these issues more widespread. Does anybody have a SLASH OL that is printing properly with good results?

Have you checked if your LCD works? Remove the resin tank and press the show logo button. If that works, install the tank and press full screen clean for like 20 seconds and see if there is a solid film of cured resin.

The printer doesn’t need to be connected after you start the print. So as long as you can upload the file to the printer then the connection problem is less of a problem. I also have a similar wifi problem and the way I go around it is to reconnect to wifi by clicking the your wifi again and re-entering the password.

I had the same Resin Abnormal problem before but it was fixed with the 4.3 firmware update. What firmware is on your printer? Also, have you tried removing the rfid chip and taping it directly to the rfid reader?

Hi Jonathan,

thanks for the tips. 🙂

The LCD works. I did the show logo and it showed up. I also ran a print without the tank and build platform and could see the print show up on the LCD screen, it just isn’t curing the resin.

I am working with UNIZ support. but so far they haven’t found a solution. It seems like i should at least be getting failed prints. But as it is, there is just nothing there after a print, not even a little bit of cured resin at the bottom of the tank. I am totally baffled.

I’ve been doing the same thing in regards to the wifi, but it is getting to be a pain to have to keep doing that everytime I want to connect to the printer.

I am running firmware 4.3 and have the RFID tag stuck to where the reader is and it has been better, but just this morning it through the resin abnormal error again.

Thats interesting. Have you tried on both bottle of resins they supplied? Do you happen to have a UV flashlight? If you do, try putting some resin on something(plastic sheet, wood, etc) and shining the flashlight at the resin and see if it cures. I am wondering if you got bad resin.

Also, have you tried the full screen clean function? Do you mind taking a picture of the tank while running the full screen clean?

I am hoping that they can fix the wifi problem with a new software update. For me, this only happens once in a while and not as often as it seems for you.

Hi, can you post the settings of your print?

I’m in the same boat.  Lots of noise from the fan, but nothing actually happens in the build chamber, the head never even drops into the resin.  Software is totally dodgy and crashes.    I’ve got 3 other 3D printers, I think I know my way around software and hardware, but I can’t get the Slash to do anything.

I’m very disappointed with UNIZ, this printer is not a finished product, nothing works as it should
