Print problems with simple object and UDP orange resin

Hello UNIZ,

my printer arrived week ago. I think I did everything well.

1. I leveled the printer, test the display (logo is there)

2. I filled the vat with the resin

I tryed my test print as this:

And its settings are on the picture

My first print didnt stick to the platform at all. So I re-calibrated Zero level.

Second print attempt sticked to the platform, but maybe only for the first 3 layers.

This is the result:

Values are default.

The vat on the picture is after 3x cleaning process. And there is no layer to peel off at all.

Display power is 250.

Whats wrong? Please help

I dont understand how anybody can print a part in 30 minutes or less, when this one took 1h 30mins

and there is no sticking to the previous layer.

Thanks Jiri

PS: It looks like the diodes has not enough power. Or my zUDP Orange is not zUDP.

Is it possible, by the mistake, to have zABS in the bottle marked zUDP? Cause I ordered 1 bottle of zUDP Gray and one bottle of zABS Orange. But in the package were zUDP Gray and zUDP Orange only.

I’ve had the same experience with the zUDP orange. I did the full screen clean at least 5 times in a row and barely got a thin film that didn’t come off cleanly. Only one attempt even partially formed anything but what you show in your picture, which was a non-udp print with significantly higher cure times than the default.

In contrast, a single full screen clean operation on the zUDP gray creates a thick (wasteful) “brick” of curved resin. I didn’t measure it, but it feels a few hundred microns thick, maybe half a millimeter or more.

Hi Steven, thanks to share your experience. Maybe I will try my zUDP Grey instead. I have a theory. Resin should not be stored over 25 C. But during the shipping, who controls the temperature? Even here in Central Europe we had 32 C during the September. And in the south sea area, 45 in the shadow, 55 on the open sea? Who knows. Maybe the zUDP Orange is less stable. Maybe all the resins shipped over the half of the world are degraded by the temperature.

Any idea from UNIZ?

it looks like there a difference between grey and orange resin.

still strange, it should be only the pegment (the color) with same base material.

Yesterday I turned off UDP and start printing with normal mode.

And I also mixed the bottle much better.

This is the result of 100μm print, on NORMAL (nonUDP)  mode but still with UDP resin:

So now I know the printer works very well. Thanks UNIZ, great machine!

Here is the settings of the print shown above:

Somebody in the forum mentioned, the UDP print could have problem with peel off when platform raises, because raise height is not big enough to resin separate from the vat foil.

The UDP mode has physics limitation regarding objects with solid cross-sections, please check the UDP design rule before printing in this mode. https://www.uniz.com/us_en/support/design_specification/

Hello Houmin, now I understand. I didnt read the instructions carefully before. But I still have a problems with non UDP mode. Is it like the UDP resin is not designed for normal mode printing? Thanks

The UDP resins are optimized for UDP mode prints, they can be used for normal mode as well, but need more fine tuning of exposure time.

Thank you very much. I will try other resins also and for UDP i will adjust my part desing as good as possible.

Just a heads up! I noticed that the shelf life of UDP resin in only six months, the resin I have that came with my Slash OL is already two months old… so only four months left. I better use it up and not waste on testing! ?

Be sure to zero the Z with the tray removed and the new platform cleaned and scrarched with the provided sandpaper. I also had initial issue with adhesion. I have the slicer set to do a traditional peel then switch to UDP after 15 layers are applied.
